System error: Illegal XML character when opening a map

Applies to: MindManager X5, 6, 7

Symptom
When opening a Map MIndManager shows the following or similar error:
XML-validation error "(2:10846) Illegal XML character".
 
Cause
This error may occur if any special characters used in the map become corrupt. For example copy & paste from PDF files.

Resolution
For help recovering map files with corrupt characters, users should send the map file to Mindjet support through the online case submission. When submitting the case you will receive a confirmation email. Please reply to the email and attach the corrupted map and send to us.
