Built-in Browser: Cannot Edit hyperlinked Microsoft Office documents
Applies to: MindManager 8 Symptom When opening hyperlinked Microsoft Office documents, such as Excel, Word or PowerPoint, and user tries to Edit, the application shows a warning indicating the document is read-only and that user does not have proper permissions. Following messages will show up:
- Microsoft Excel: The cell or chart you are trying to change is protected and therefore read-only.
- Microsoft Word: This document is protected from unintentional editing (will ask for password to unlock).
- Microsoft PowerPoint: This document will open as read-only in the Browser.
Cause This behaviour is by design. The reason for this read-only limit with hyperlinked documents is the risk of having the document opened in both the internal browser and the external Office application. Resolution To edit Office documents you have 2 alternatives:
- You'll have to attach the document as an attachement to the map. MindManager 8 allows editing for attachements within the built-in browser.
- Open the document outside of MindManager. Right click on the hyperlink and choose "Open Hyperlink Outside of MindManager".
Note: If you want to open any hyperlinked files outside of MindManager by default, go in the MindManager Ribbon toolbar to "Home > Hyperlinks" and disable the option "Use Built-in Browser for Hyperlinks".
